Sign Up & Onboarding

To get started, sign up for a Celery account. Once, logged in, you’ll be asked to provide some basic personal information.

image

Adding a Bank

When asked to add a bank account, you’ll be required to provide a institution number, transit number and the account number.

image

Most banks provide this information in their online banking portal. For example, here is TD’s guide.

You can also find this information if you have a cheque from your bank account. For example, here is TD’s guide on how to locate these numbers using a cheque.

Once the bank is added, we’ll send a small deposit to your bank account. It will take a day or two for the deposit to show up on your online banking portal. After you see the deposit you can return to Celery to verify the ownership of the bank account by entering the amount that you see in your banking portal.

Buying or Selling

After verifying your bank account you can begin buying or selling digital currency!

New look for 2015

We’ve updated the Celery site with various design changes for 2015. Our goal was to give the site a cleaner look that provides a more enjoyable experience for you.

To do this we set out to:

1. Change our color scheme while reducing the number and use of colors. (Old design on the left and new design on the right).

image

Problem: Our previous design used too many colors, and used them inconsistently.

Solution: We chose new colors (fewer of them), and made more use of greys.

2. Make the homepage & referral landing page more human by adding big photos. (Old design on the left and new design on the right).

image

Problem: The homepage was graphics-heavy.

Solution: Replaced the banner graphic with a large photo. We wanted to show the human element of using digital currencies like bitcoin in your daily life.

3. Redo all auxiliary pages with consistent styling

image

Problem: Our auxiliary pages were in a bad state. They were hastily put together and lacked consistent styling.

Solution: Consistent styling to make content easily understandable. This included a large intro section describing the pages purpose and content. The pages’ content is separated by dividers and columns are used to associate relevant content.

4. Add helpful auxiliary pages such as FAQ and How to Buy Bitcoins

image

Problem: Some of our auxiliary pages were links that unknowingly brought users to sites outside of Celery. In addition, we did not have good information sources for newcomers to bitcoin and digital currencies.

Solution: We added new pages to provide better information within Celery.

We hope you enjoy the new look! As always, reach out to us with any comments or questions.

New feature: Buy again orders & Replenish funds

We’ve noticed many Celery users repeat transaction amounts. To make it easier, you can now quickly pre-load dollar amounts from previous Buy & Sell orders. In addition, you can use the Replenish button to buy the dollar amount you’ve sent out of your account.

Here’s how it works:

From the Buy or Sell, Order Details pages, choose the “Buy again” option.

image

From the Send Details pages, choose the “Replenish” option.

image

Both actions save you time typing in the specific dollar amounts.

Enjoy!

How to sell bitcoin, litecoin or dogecoin

At Celery, we are continuing to round out our digital currency wallet features. Selling is the latest addition. With your Celery account, you can now buy, sell, send, deposit and store your bitcoin, litecoin or dogecoin.

Selling digital currency on Celery is easy. Here’s a quick guide to selling:

image

1. Create a Celery account

Signing up and completing your account is simple and fast. We require less personal information than most digital currency sites. We don’t want you to provide any information that we do not need.

image

2. Add a bank

Add the bank account that you want to cash out to. In order to sell digital currency, you need to have some in your Celery account. With a verified bank, you can buy bitcoin, litecoin or dogecoin. Or deposit to your Celery account from another wallet or exchange site.

image

3. Sell

With digital currency in your account, you’re all set to sell! Go to Celery’s Sell page and choose the currency you want to sell, and the amount.

We believe in transparency, so you can see the low 1% selling fee before you cash out.

Once you sell, you’ll see an estimated arrival time for the dollars to appear in your bank. Usually 2-3 days.

That’s it! Congratulate yourself on selling digital currency!

Our takeaways from the Money20/20 (Bit)coinWorld conference

Our co-founders Ilya and Divya attended the Money20/20 conference last week. Here are our takeaways:

  • The explicit interest in digital currencies like bitcoin at the conference is a sign of it’s impact on the payment industry.

  • Many of the (Bit)coinWorld speakers set out to educate the who’s who in the payments industry on digital currency. This shows that education remains a large and necessary step for everyone from the payment companies, to businesses, to people who would benefit from using digital currency.

image
  • While many people in the payments industry believe in the future impact digital currency will have, we are still in the very early stage.

  • Innovation in the payments space is slow due to the ecosystem. It has previously taken years for people to be convinced and change their behavior with something as personal as their money.

  • We believe digital currencies like bitcoin will accelerate innovation in the payments space because of it’s open technology.

How we employ Usability Testing to improve Celery for you

Let’s face it, digital currency is not known for its user friendly services and interfaces. Offering an easy to use wallet and buying service is important for newcomers to digital currency. Usability testing is an important tool we use to improve your experience using Celery.

We’ve been testing our site since we first started designing Celery. Each week we hold a testing session for a new feature or design we’re working on. Regular testing has been immensely helpful in guiding our product and design decisions.

Here are a few recent changes that were based on in-person testing.

Side nav

image

We recently changed our side navigation to make room for new features (and upcoming ones). This was our starting problem - too many items made the nav feel cluttered. We immediately realized this after testing new features with the old nav, where all the items were viewable at all times. We thought that the Account, Support and Logout items are not regularly used, and thus have a lower priority. So began our new nav designing.

After a few internal discussions with our whole team (we believe in getting input from everyone), we decided to enclose Account, Support and Logout beneath a Profile nav item. The Profile fills in with your name once you’ve entered it. We also grouped transaction types; Buy under Exchange, Deposit and Send under Wallet.

We put our new nav design in front of real people and saw that people are accustomed to account settings being located under their name because this has become somewhat of a norm in many sites people use on a daily basis.

Verifications

image

Since our launch we’ve seen many people outside the U.S. signing up and requesting our service in their country. We currently only support U.S. banks, but welcome international users who want a good online wallet for bitcoin, litecoin and dogecoin. The problem was that our verifications process required a bank account. This turned away international users.

To make the experience more friendly to people outside the U.S. and those who simply want to use Celery as a wallet (with sending and depositing features), we removed bank linking from the Verifications page. Furthermore, we reduced the number of steps by combining steps that had two parts - such as adding a phone, and verifying a phone. Steps like this are naturally tied together and we wanted to encourage people to complete them as one. All in all we reduced the number of steps from 7 to 3!

We’re going to be testing our new Verifications page this Friday. Our hypothesis is that the completion rate will increase and time to completion will be reduced.

Be a tester!

We’re committed to constantly improving the user experience of Celery and believe that usability testing and continued feedback from our users is the most important tool we If you live in the NYC area and would like to participate in our testing sessions, email us at info@gocelery.com. You’ll receive snacks and some bitcoin!

Celery is changing the face of digital currency

Trust through Transparency.

Digital Currency was built on the philosophy of shared information. It works because transactions are publicly displayed. And yet, most digital currency exchanges and wallets offer little information about themselves to their users.

We’re changing that.

We are proud to introduce our Transparency page. The Transparency page will give you insights into our business.

With this page, you can see:

  • Our funds distribution between hot and cold wallet storage
  • Hosted funds in USD
  • Hosted funds in digital currency
  • Average transaction times and more.

We believe that if you can trust us with your business, we should trust you with the details of what we do.

Click here to see our Transparency page, and stay up to date with our growth.

Celery wallet now supports Litecoin!

image

You can now buy, send, deposit and store Litecoin with Celery. We’ve added litecoin after listening to many requests from the litecoin community for a secure, easy-to-use and low-fee wallet service for litecoin.

We launched Celery with bitcoin and dogecoin because of our belief in the advantages of the underlying technology of digital currency - but not necessarily any single currency. Litecoin has seen great volume and support since it’s creation by Charlie Lee. By adding litecoin, Celery is the only trusted U.S. wallet service to offer the top three digital currencies.

Charlie Lee, the creator of Litecoin, shares our enthusiasm for adding litecoin to Celery:

I’ve been beta testing buying Litecoin on Celery for a while now. It’s the
easiest way to buy Litecoin. I’m excited that everyone can now easily buy
Litecoin with Celery.

- Charlie Lee, creator of Litecoin

Multi-Factor Authentication added for Celery

We’ve listened to our users’ requests for Multi-Factor Authentication and have added this security feature using the Google Authenticator app. Security is of the utmost importance to us. We will continue to build further features to ensure the best possible security for all our users.

To enable MFA on your Celery account, navigate to your Account page, then Security. Follow the quick steps for enabling MFA using Google Authenticator.
